Explore the little known but extremely interesting and beautiful Gherasurgad. The Fort has inscription, water tanks, ancient temples and buildings and falls in the western ghats region of India and is historically associated with Chatrapati Shivaji. It is also called Surgad. From the top of the fort you have the most astounding view of the river Kundalika snaking below and the peaks of the western ghats in the distance.

Republic Day 2007 Weekend Eco-Camp






Dear Eco Traveler,

You can once again experience genuine ecotourism program that explores a new destination, is high on adventure, fun filled and amidst beautiful nature from the 26th January till 27th January, 2007. (Check Itinerary beneath)

*Fort Trekking and Hiking:*

Explore the little known but extremely interesting and beautiful Gherasurgad with your base camp at Rivertrail Eco-camp with a naturalist for company. The Fort has inscription, water tanks, ancient temples and buildings and falls in the western ghats region of India and is historically associated with Chatrapati Shivaji. It is also called Surgad. We leave at 6AM in the morning on 27th January i.e Saturday with packed breakfast and return by 2 PM, just in time for lunch. Perhaps we can cook our breakfast at the top of the fort from where you have the most astounding view of the river Kundalika snaking below and the peaks of the western ghats in the distance. (see pictures)

*Grade*: Moderate to Tough but manageable by most people, if reasonable fit.

*Water Sports - Kayaking, Canoeing and River Crossing:*

1. KII, KI and CI - You have already experienced Kayaking on KII with us. Run you KII once again with your partner or friend and this time you can escalate your fun and learning both by graduating to a KI and maybe even CI!
2. KI is more challenging and hence more fun, faster and high adrelanine.
3. CI, you use your body to turn and paddle to balance and oar! More difficult than KI and involves the whole of you.
4. River crossing as you know is exhilarating, very wet and very wild. This time we will cross deep river method and your feets cant touch the bottom! *Kayak Voyages (for guest staying 3D2N)

*Water babies who love adventure and specially Kayaking; have learned Kayaking in the past from us or will stay 3D2N can graduate to Kayak Voyages where we go with our resident camp manager himself on a 3 KM long Voyage on the Kayak with your food, binoculars and mats and explore riverine terrain and birds. We begin 6 AM sharp and return by 11 AM on the Sunday, the 28th.

Eco-Camping
**And ofcourse the usual camp fire, boating, night walks, star gazing (if sky is clear) along with sumptuous vegetarian buffet meals; knowledgable,warm and caring staff and watching the sunset by the riverside!

CAMP ITINERARY FOR 26th and 27th JANUARY 2007:

DAY 1

10.00 am: Reach Rivertrail. Enjoy breakfast

11.00 am: Rivercrossing activity

1.00 pm: Lunch

2.00 pm: Bullock cart rides
Or Bicycling

4.00 pm: Tea and snacks

4.30 pm: Kayaking or K2 and K1

7.00 pm: Nature games or Night trail

9.00 pm: Dinner

DAY 2

6.00 am: Wake up

7.00 am: Bicycle or bullock cart ride to Surgad trek base

7.30 am: Trek begins

9.00 am: Packed Breakfast

11.30 am: Reach pinnacle. Gaze at the stupendous view or learn about the historic cannons, water tanks, explore the ancient temple.

1.00 pm: Enjoy lunch.

1.30 pm: Descent begins.

2.30 pm: Reach waterfall in the forest.

4.00 pm: Raft building to get across the other side of a gushing river

5.00 pm: Tea and snacks.

6.00 pm: Camp goodbyes
